Sometimes it may seem hard to be grateful. Things happen in
our lives that make it difficult to see the ‘silver lining’ or to ‘keep our
head up’. But the truth is that it is during these times that it is most
important to have an attitude of gratitude. When we focus our hearts on the
positive instead of the negative, fear and darkness recede.
We recently made our regular six month trip to Memphis, TN
and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for Emma’s scheduled MRI and other
tests. For the first time ever we made the trip with friends. Emma brought
along her two very special friends Lexi and Kaleigh. The girls had a wonderful
time together. They had new experiences, saw new things and made memories to
last a lifetime.
When we met with Emma’s doctor we discovered that after 4
years of clean MRI scans there is regrowth in the original tumor area.
So as recommended by her doctor, Emma will have a second
resection surgery. We find ourselves back in Memphis, TN this week after a very
short trip home to spend some much needed time with loved ones and repack
before heading back. Emma’s surgery will be at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital on
Wednesday morning and conducted by Dr. Boop.
Because she didn’t want just the front of her head shaved by
the surgical team for the surgery Emma opted to shave her head completely. Her
dear friend Lexi, who came along on this trip also chose to shave her head in
solidarity.
Emma at 16 is stronger and braver than she was at 12 and 13.
She knows what to expect with this surgery, but of course is not excited about
it.
We are so grateful for all the love and support we have from
our family and friends. We have been so blessed by each one of you!
